Poker night just got a centerpiece. This 1957 Jim Beam decanter is one of the rarest and most unusual pieces in the entire figural series — a black porcelain double deck playing card holder with a built-in Jim Beam whiskey bottle, all wrapped in original gold foil labels. Set it on the table and it does double duty: holds two decks of cards and anchors the bar setup in one stroke.
The black porcelain is bold and striking, made all the more dramatic by the gold foil labels that remain fully intact. Made by Regal China of Chicago — the same craftsmen behind the entire Jim Beam figural series — originally sold with Jim Beam 5 Year Old Whiskey, now empty. At 10 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide, it has a real presence.
A superb gift for the dad who plays cards, collects Jim Beam decanters, or simply appreciates a piece of barware history that no one else at the table will have seen before.
Note: often listed as an ashtray, but research confirms this was designed to hold two decks of playing cards — the whiskey bottle sitting squarely in the center of the action.
Jim Beam's Regal China figural decanter series launched in the early 1950s and ran through the 1980s, producing hundreds of designs ranging from animals and celebrities to fraternal organizations and playing card holders. Pieces from the 1950s — the earliest years of the series — are among the most difficult to find today.
Regal China Corporation of Chicago produced hand-crafted porcelain for Jim Beam exclusively from the early 1950s until their closure in 1992. Their work set the standard for American collectible ceramic barware.
